Where to Stay
Las Vegas is a very large city and knowing where to stay is one of the key decisions that will inevitably effect the quality of your trip. With few exceptions, you will most likely want to stay on "The Strip".
The Strip Staying on the strip ensures that you can walk from your hotel to where ever you choose to go. Driving in Vegas, as you will soon see, is much like driving in New York or San Francisco. By walking and using the free trams, you will arrive at your destination far faster than driving.

The section of Las Vegas Blvd. that lies between Mandalay Bay and the Wynn is what is known as The Strip. Stay anywhere on the strip and save your cab fare for the card tables.
Don't stay at any hotel north of the Wynn. If the low quality rooms don't kill you, the walk/cab fare will.
Freemont Street (Down Town) This is old town Las Vegas, complete with the giant Smoking Cowboy sign and cheap food and drinks (which is non-existent on the strip). It may be worth a visit, but staying at any hotel here will greatly limit your vacation because you will quickly get tired of paying the $15 one-way cab fare to the strip. |
